About Cygnet Stamping

Cygnet Stamping & Fabricating specializes in Short-run metal stamping and precision sheetmetal fabrication. We can economically run volumes of 50 pieces to 50000 pieces. Our Engineering Staff will review your requirements, part design, anticipated order volumes and product life. We then suggest the most cost effective way to manufacture your part. Because we have several different methods available to us, we can help pick the process that is right for you.

Fabrication

Cygnet has the latest in sheet metal fabrication equipment. We feature 4 Finn-Power high speed turret presses. These are the most productive and advanced turret presses in use today. In addition to extremely high strokes per minute stamping rates, these presses are capable of secondary forming operations and tapping. We back these presses up with an array of CNC Controlled pressbrakes, automated self-clinching fastener insertion machines and complete welding capabilities. Cygnet also has tube cutting and both Mig and Tig welding, enabling us to fabricate large cabinets and enclosures.

Tooling

In order to reduce tooling costs for our customers, we have developed our own system of "Universal" Die Sets. When ordering new parts, our customers are only paying for the inserts required to produce their part configuration. The die set is reusable and is not included in the cost. We have a large inventory of "Standard" form tools, which are used whenever possible, again reducing our customer tooling charges. Our method of tooling also results in shorter tooling leadtimes. All tooling has a "Life Time Guarantee", we will rebuild any worn out tooling at our expense.

Short Run Stamping

For runs of 500 to 25000 pieces, short run stamping is usually the economical method to produce formed metal parts. In these quantities full progressive die tooling, and even stage tooling, can be prohibitively expensive. With our proprietary "Universal" die set, tooling costs are significantly reduced. Our die set design also reduces set up times, further reducing piece part costs. After the part is tapped, we have complete secondary operations capabilities. We offer deburring, drilling and tapping, spot welding, self-clinching fastener inserters, plating, painting and silkscreening. We offer ship to stock programs and special packaging.

History of Cygnet Stamping

The roots of Cygnet Stamping and Fabricating were planted in 1974 by Ernest (Ernie) Swan - a man who saw change as an opportunity to improve. With $ 5,000. in life's savings, Swan left a manufacturer's rep. agency to start his own rep. firm, Secana, in 1967. His new firm had rep. contracts to sell miniature sandblasters and the services of short-run metal stampings and plastic injection moldings. Soon after, Mike and Jawn, two of Swan's three sons, joined the growing company and the micro sandblasting shop activity was spun off into a sister company - Crystal Mark, Incorporated.

Crystal Mark became the exclusive distributor for the miniature sandblaster products and also began designing and manufacturing capital equipment.

In 1974 the Swans' growing companies were relocated from Burbank to Glendale, California, and Marko, Ernie's youngest son, joined the family venture. A third sister company - Cygnet Metal Stamping - was started with two employees and three punch presses in the back of the Swan companies' headquarters office.

In 1980, all three corporations were humming along. The three brothers were each presidents of a company, while Ernie was Chairman of the Board of all three. Then on December 19, 1980, Ernie Swan had a heart attack and died suddenly at the age of 62. A big, robust, fun-loving man, it was a shock to the Swans that Ernie would no longer physically be with them. They knew, however, that he had accomplished many of his goals, and his influence and spirit would always be present in their lives.
